Position Overview
We are seeking an entry-level Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. This role combines hands-on animal care with client education responsibilities, making it ideal for candidates passionate about pet health and communication. The Veterinary Assistant will support the veterinary surgeon in clinical duties, patient care, and case follow-ups, while also engaging with clients to provide updates, education, and professional communication.
Key Responsibilities
As a Veterinary Assistant at Vetlit Animal Clinic, you will:
- Assist the veterinary surgeon in clinical and surgical procedures.
- Administer treatments to animals under supervision.
- Safely restrain and handle animals during examinations or treatment.
- Collect, organize, and manage client-provided health records (e.g., vaccination records).
- Follow up on treated cases and report findings to the veterinary surgeon.
- Maintain clean, sterile, and organised equipment and treatment areas.
- Monitor patient well-being (including feeding, comfort, and recovery parameters) and initiate corrective measures in consultation with the surgeon.
- Record and update patient health status in treatment rooms, theatres, and kennels.
- Supervise animal care activities performed by other staff and report to the surgeon.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma in Animal Health, Animal Husbandry, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (client engagement, phone etiquette, professional messaging).
- Ability to multitask and maintain accurate records.
- Compassion, patience, and a strong passion for animal welfare.
- Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn.
